Our Blazing Into STEM team has passionately crafted porch conversations on topics close to their hearts. Each team member has chosen a unique subject, and presented it in their own insightful way. Gary's Mission

Gary's mission is to honor Juneteenth by promoting Black women to become STEM teachers. With 17 years of experience as a Product Engineer in memory technology and a dedication to teaching computer science, he strives to create pathways for Black women in STEM. Gary advocates for equitable access to resources and mentorship, empowering them to lead the next generation of innovators. His porch conversation emphasizes the importance of visible role models in inspiring students to see themselves in STEM fields and pursue their own dreams in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
Java's Mission

Driven by her personal narrative, Java's mission is to pave the way for young women of color to carve out their space within the Computer Science industry. Through her work, she seeks to dismantle barriers, challenge stereotypes, and foster an environment where every individual feels empowered to pursue their passions and aspirations. By advocating for inclusivity and diversity, Java Rhodes aspires to create a future where talent knows no bounds, and opportunities abound for all.
Jean-Paul's Mission

Josephine Silone Yates spearheaded the greatest and most successful literacy effort in U.S. history. Her students were four million emancipated slaves. In less than 40 years, Negro literacy grew from less than one tenth of one percent to about 45% at the turn of the twentieth century. Today, with public education and all available bells and whistles, only 34% of California's Black elementary students read at grade level by the end of 3rd grade. Early elementary literacy is the mission.
Kaeli's Mission

Kaeli McCarther is a former agriculture science teacher and current Restorative Practices coordinator at a middle school. She was motivated to join the teaching profession to show students of diverse backgrounds that science and agriculture are industries that welcome people from all walks of life. In her current role, she is able to reach a wider population of students and make a positive difference in their experiences at school. Her mission is to make positive educational experiences accessible for students in underrepresented backgrounds.
Nikita's Mission

Nikita has always been a pioneer for science as the Science Lead for the last 16 years. She has advocated for teachers and training staff in science integration. The key was modeling science lessons and encouraging student exploration. Nikita's mission is to increase the representation of black students in the STEAM field through direct exposure. She plans to coordinate with community partners and members dedicated to helping our children. Nikita wants students to see themselves as STEAM professionals in the future.
